Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act

deCODE genetics has been at the forefront when it comes to privacy protection in genetic research and testing and offers high-quality laboratory services through predictive genetic testing for common diseases. deCODE is committed to ensuring patient privacy through compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

HIPAA, enacted by Congress in 1996, required the Department of Health and Human Services to establish national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health plans and employers. In addition, HIPAA also contains provisions that address the security and privacy of health data and information.

deCODE diagnostics has established and maintains an active privacy program that ensures patient confidentiality and is fully compliant with the HIPAA Privacy Rule. As mandated by the Privacy Rule, deCODE diagnostics requires that all the relevant employees undergo privacy awareness training and has implemented administrative and technical safeguards that are focused on protecting patient privacy.
